Heroes Among Us - Profiles of Courage
October 20th, 2008American Muslims not only have condemned nine eleven again and again but have also contributed time, effort, energy, funds and sometimes even their own lives to fight this War On Terror.
American Muslims have patiently and painfully endured viscous attack after attack from Islamophobes who hate any Muslim who is alive and living.
We American Muslims have also stood tall and defended our lives, our families, our friends and above all our Religion. Slowly but surely stories come into the mainstream of American Muslims who fought valiantly in Afghanistan and Iraq.
Colin L. Powell on Meet The Press introduced one such Hero to the entire Country today - American Muslim Soldier Kareem Rashad Sultan Khan, of Manahawkin, NJ, who is buried in Arlington.
Mr. Khan as a 14-year-old young boy shocked by the events of nine eleven knew that his religion did not endorse violence and killings, especially of innocent children and women. Khan waited till he graduated from High School and enlisted in the Army. He felt that he was an American and he had a job to do, defend his country. Mr Khan served in Iraq over a year from July 2006 till August 6th 2007. On that day he gave his life in the service of his country. A young Handsome Patriotic American Citizen. A normal young person who loved the Dallas Cowboys, Disneyland and playing video games with his half sister. His country Honored him by bestowing The Bronze Star and The Purple Heart on him. Khan would have been home safe a month before, but his tour of duty had been extended in Iraq. Khan was planning on either going to medical school or reenlisting back in the Military.
We at Muslims for America are proud of him and proud of all our US soldiers who have had difficult overseas deployments. The ones who come back to the families we offer our gratitude. Those who gave their lives, we will never forget your dedication to your country. You are the Heroes we look up to and you are the Profiles of Courage we talk about.
I would also like to Honor Humayun S.M. Khan, who is also buried in Arlington. Mr Khan died in a suicide car bombing at the main gate of his base in Iraq. His country bestowed the Bronze Star and a Purple Heart on him.
The American Muslim Heroes live in our hearts and as do the rest of our Dear Departed American Military Soldiers and Officers.
We look up to their families for their Patriotism and we honor them for their Courage and Strength.
Thank You.
